What Are Clear Aligner Braces?

Invisible braces are a clear tray aligner system used to straighten teeth by using a progressive series of clear retainer trays. It is a cosmetically superior alternative to traditional metal braces or white braces. Invisalign is another well-known system from a different company. Invisalign and ClearCorrect use the same computer-aided technology to straighten crooked teeth. SmartMoves is a digital clear tray system our dentist uses that has advanced tray technology to increase comfort during treatment. The invisible orthodontic trays are custom made for each patient. The plastic trays gradually move teeth in a gentle, predictable progression. It is important to have a dentist or orthodontist monitor your treatment because teeth don’t always fit into the trays the right way. If that occurs, those teeth will not move. A dentist can adjust your treatment to keep your results on track. The extra cost to have a professional design and monitor your case ensures the best possible results for your time and money.

How Do I Start?

Your orthodontist or Phoenix dentist first evaluates if your teeth can be effectively straightened with clear aligners. Not all crooked teeth or teeth with gaps can be improved with aligners. A dentist can give you all your options and make sure the results you expect are how your smile looks at the end of treatment. After you decide to get clear aligners to straighten your teeth, the next thing your dentist will do is take a set of records to help her design your treatment course. From these records, you will be able to see a mock-up of what your final results will look like. The records consist of a 3-D digital x-ray of your jaws. Next, a series of photos will be taken to document the beginning position of your teeth and help plan your case. Your dentist will do a thorough dental exam to ensure you have no cavities or gum disease. These problems will interfere with the success of your teeth straightening and can damage your teeth if not fixed. Your orthodontist will take a digital scan of your top teeth and bottom teeth to send to the dental lab. Some dentists still take impressions with plastic trays and paste material to capture the shape and position of your teeth. The lab uses specialized software to design the series of trays based on what your dentist and you want to improve your smile. These trays are delivered to your dentist after about 3 weeks.

What Happens Now?

Your dentist will explain how to insert and remove the trays. An important detail is to BE SURE each tray is completely seated up against your teeth, every time you put your trays in. If the plastic trays are not seated completely, your teeth will not move the right way. This can result in expensive refinements, longer treatment times and disappointing results.  Your orthodontist will make sure you understand how to check this at home. The dental nurse will make sure you know how to keep your trays clean and use them effectively to efficiently get you through your tray teeth straightening as fast as possible with the best results!

You will return for checkups and adjustments to keep your teeth straightening on track. There may be times that your dentist will need to place tooth-colored bumps on your tooth to make more difficult movements or make some spaces between other teeth to allow room for teeth to straighten out and line up correctly. This type of necessary evaluation, monitoring, adjustment and touchups that your dental professional provides ensure you get the beautiful straight teeth you want. This is the reason mail-order programs can be so inexpensive. There is no management of your case, no assurance you are going in the right direction and no way to make adjustments if it's not. The patient pays for the lab fees without the supervision to ensure they get the straight smile they expect. The cost of wasted money, wasted time and disappointing results can’t be refunded.

How Long Do Clear Aligners Take?

Treatment time can vary from six months to two years, depending upon your desires for your smile and how crooked, crowded or spaced your teeth are. Our dentist offers additional advanced technology to increase the speed of your teeth moving and decrease your treatment time. Ask about using PROPEL and V-Pro to decrease the amount of time to change your trays from two weeks to less than one week. This can cut your treatment time in half and can be started at any time during your treatment. These options add additional cost to your treatment and are great for individuals who want to get their teeth straightened as quickly as possible!
